The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and Huawei Pakistan have officially joined hands to address the digital gap and promote gender equality by empowering women through digital technologies across various regions in Pakistan starting with Punjab, KPY, and Sindh.

The memorandum of understanding signing event was graced by the presence of Dr. Sania Nishter, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister of Pakistan on Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, Federal Secretary (IT & T) Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, PTA Chairman Maj Gen® Amir Azeem Bajwa, along with top executives from Jazz, Ufone, Telenor Pakistan, Huawei Pakistan, and other stakeholders.

Dr. Sania Nishter and PTA commended the efforts made by the operators and Huawei in driving gender inclusion and women empowerment initiatives.

Enhanced internet access and digital literacy can empower women to venture into entrepreneurship, expand their market reach, secure competitive job opportunities, access essential services like education and healthcare, engage in public discourse, and facilitate knowledge exchange. Despite no significant reduction in the ICT gender gap in Pakistan in recent years, the MoU signing aims to address this issue.

Huawei is set to collaborate with PTA in launching projects that focus on decreasing the digital gender gap through awareness campaigns and providing females with digital skills training. The company plans to conduct training sessions targeting around 500 women in 2022. Additionally, Huawei pledges to assist PTA in organizing projects, training programs, and activities promoting gender inclusion in ICTs in partnership with other entities. The initiatives will concentrate on integrating women into ICT academies, corporate social responsibility projects, and offering cost-effective tools, phones, and gadgets to facilitate seamless learning for women.

In today’s rapidly evolving tech landscape, fostering inclusivity is crucial to driving significant advancements across various sectors via technological innovations.

This aligns with Huawei’s overarching mission to extend digital access to every individual, household, and organization to create a fully connected, intelligent world. The company is dedicated to ensuring widespread connectivity and ensuring equitable network access to lay the groundwork for an intelligent world that facilitates robust computing power for delivering comprehensive cloud services and intelligence. This approach aims to establish powerful digital platforms that enhance the agility, efficiency, and dynamism of all industries and organizations. Huawei is also keen on revolutionizing user experiences through the integration of Artificial Intelligence, offering personalized and intelligent interactions across various domains including home settings, travel, workplace environments, entertainment, and health and fitness arenas.
