The iPad Mini 2 was the most beloved tablet of last year along with the iPad Air and the Mini 2 had been upgraded with the Retina Display the iPad fans had been coveting for a year. It is therefore surprising to see Apple leaving the fan favorite tablet almost untouched for its new version, the iPad Mini 3, except for a few changes, and instead focusing mainly on the larger version.
iPad Mini 3 retains the same 7.9-inch, 2048 x 1536 resolution display that everybody simply loved on the previous version. The design of the tablet remains the same as well as was on the original iPad Mini and last years as well. The design is no doubt beautiful and aesthetically pleasing with rounded edges that make the tablet comfortable to hold.
It shares identical guts to the Mini 2 and one that made it a super fast and efficient tablet. It is powered by the A7 processor that runs at 1.7GHz along with a 1GB of RAM. These specs still manage to put this tablet up against some of the best and provide the tablet plenty of power. In fact, it can still compete with last year’s iPad Air 2 and can easily run the heaviest and graphic intense games without any hiccups.
The battery category is still where most of the fans remain happy, with almost 10 hours of use to get you through the day even with abundant use of the tablet. Browsing the web is a breeze on the iPad Mini 3 and the App Store is increasing in numbers of apps to give you access to millions of apps for your use.
The only significant change to the tablet includes the inclusion of a Touch ID sensor on its Home Button that Apple introduced with the iPhone 5S. This makes it easier to log in to your iPad but it may not be enough to make millions of iPad Mini 2 users’ upgrade. The new version also comes in Gold color option and you can choose the bigger storage options of 64 and 128GB.
iPad Mini 3 comes packed with Apple’s latest mobile software, iOS 8, which promises to make all the supported devices more productive and easier to use than before. However, if you don’t really care for the Gold option and the TouchID, we recommend you stick with your 2013 version.
