iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max review: Apple thrives on its dynamic island

By finally embracing features that Android phones have long had, like smaller front camera cutouts and always-on displays, the iPhone 14 Pro brings conveniences that iOS users will appreciate. Apple’s unique approach with Dynamic Island feels slick, and though its camera updates don’t translate to dramatic photography improvements, the iPhone 14 Pro still takes excellent pictures and video. Controversial decisions like removing the SIM card slot and still being stuck on a Lightning charger instead of USB-C don’t hold Apple’s latest flagship from being a worthy upgrade.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max is a beast of a phone, but it also delivers the best Apple has to offer. Its Always On Display makes keeping tabs on your notifications easier without being too distracting, while the new Dynamic Island is slick, if not useful. Throw in solid cameras, excellent performance and respectable battery life, and the iPhone 14 Pro Max is a satisfying flagship. That is, if you can bear to part with your physical SIM card.

Pros:
– Useful Always On Display
– Good battery life in spite of AOD
– Dynamic Island feels slick
– Easy eSIM setup

Cons:
– No USB-C
